Job Title: Equipment Operator – Road and Bridge Construction

Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled and experienced Equipment Operator for road and bridge construction projects. The Equipment Operator will be responsible for operating a variety of heavy machinery used in the construction, maintenance, and repair of roads, bridges, and other infrastructure. The role requires knowledge of construction procedures, safety protocols, and the ability to operate equipment efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate Heavy Equipment: Safely operate heavy equipment such as excavators, bulldozers, backhoes, graders, and cranes to assist in road and bridge construction projects.
- Site Preparation: Use machinery to clear construction sites, remove debris, and prepare surfaces for road and bridge construction. Perform earthmoving tasks such as grading, trenching, and compacting.
- Material Handling: Load and transport construction materials such as gravel, asphalt, and concrete. Assist in pouring and spreading materials on roadbeds and bridge foundations.
- Bridge and Road Construction Support: Aid in the construction of roads, bridges, and related infrastructure by excavating foundations, moving materials, and assisting in the installation of structural elements.
- Equipment Maintenance: Perform daily checks on equipment to ensure it is in good working order. Report any maintenance needs or mechanical issues to supervisors and perform basic maintenance when needed.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety regulations and operating procedures. Use personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure equipment is operated in a safe manner at all times.
- Collaborate with Team: Work closely with construction foremen, engineers, and other equipment operators to complete projects on schedule and to high-quality standards.
- Traffic Management Support: Assist with setting up barriers, signs, and cones to guide traffic safely around construction zones when required.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of equipment usage, fuel consumption, and work completed. Submit reports to supervisors as needed.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Previous experience as a heavy equipment operator in construction, particularly in road and bridge projects, is required.
- Licensing: Must hold a valid driver’s license and a heavy equipment operator certification or license. Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is a plus.
- Technical Knowledge: Understanding of the operation and maintenance of heavy equipment, including excavators, bulldozers, graders, and other construction machinery.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting, pushing, pulling, and standing for extended periods.
- Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail to ensure safe operation and accurate execution of construction plans.
- Communication Skills: Good communication skills to work effectively with other construction team members and follow instructions.
- Safety Awareness: Knowledge of construction site safety practices and protocols.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry heavy materials and equipment.
- Ability to sit for long periods while operating heavy machinery.
- Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Ability to work in noisy, dusty, or hazardous environments.
